Dr. MacKinnon began responsibilities as Founding Dean of the School of Pharmacy at the Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) in 2015. He received his BS (Pharmacy) and MS (Hospital Pharmacy) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Pharmacy, completing two-years of post-graduate pharmacy residency training at University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. He earned his PhD in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Loyola University Chicago. He is a Fellow of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (FASHP) and Distinguished Scholar Fellow of the National Academies of Practice (NAP). His previous appointments include Founding Dean of Pharmacy & Vice Provost for Health Sciences at Roosevelt University Chicago, Vice President of Academic Affairs with the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy, and Director of Global Health Economics & Outcomes Research of Abbott Laboratories. His research interests align in expanding pharmacist care models (e.g., primary care, pharmacogenomics) in collaborative approaches to team-based care and principles of team-science. Most recently he developed a course on Pharmacogenomics in the MS Precision Medicine program at MCW.
